Intro to Natural Dyeing

  • Canberra Environment Centre Crn Lennox Crossing & Lawson Crescent Acton, ACT, 2601 (map)

In this workshop, you will learn a natural dyeing technique called eco-printing, and get to take home your own eco-printed silk scarf.

Join artist Pinal Maniar of Idyll Ink to learn the basics of using plants to dye fabrics. Participants will get to take home a silk scarf they have dyed with plant materials and kitchen scraps.

Eco-printing uses dyes extracted from plants to create patterns. This is done by contact-printing plant materials directly on the cloth. In this workshop, we will explore the alchemy of plants, water, heat, mordants and modifiers. We will experience the magic that happens when these elements interact.

And we will finish the class with beautiful prints on a natural-fibre scarf!

All materials are included in the cost of the workshop. Participants can optionally bring leaves and kitchen scraps (such as onion skins and avocado pits) from home.

Tickets are $125(+bf).
