Garden update - March
This month sees seasonal transitions in the garden as we move from the blistering heat of summer towards autumn. And transitions with people as well as I step into the role of project officer at CEC for a 12 month maternity leave cover.
Who am I? I’m Laura Jean, an avid permaculture gardener, cultivator of connection and community, and passionate sustainability supporter. I’m so excited to steward this role, and the community garden here at Gungaderra Homestead. I’m also looking forward to connecting with you as a member of our CEC community.
We’re currently harvesting the last of our summer bounty at the Gungaderra Community Garden (tomatoes, zucchini and beans) and transitioning the crops into cooler weather staples (broccoli, kale, chard and spring onions). We’ve also been adding perennials to the herb patch to get roots established while the soil is still warm and before cooler weather slows things down.
If you're keen to get your hands in the dirt I’d love to connect with you through one of our free gardening sessions listed below. Learn what to do in autumn in the garden and what to plant this time of year in the Canberra region, while helping us plant it out. This month we’ll be tidying up the beds and completing the transition to cool weather growing. Drop in when you can – happy growing!
