Macquarie Perch: An Endangered Native Fish
The Macquarie Perch is a native Australian freshwater fish that was once abundant in our inland rivers and streams but is now isolated to a few remaining populations. Lovingly referred to as the Macca, the Macquarie Perch is now an endangered species. With support from South East Local Land Services through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program, there is a collection of scientists and natural resource managers who are sharing information and working together to give this charismatic fish a second chance. Ryan Lungu travelled around the South East of NSW to talk with some of these experts and to get a better understanding of what it means to be an endangered species and what is being done in the reach for recovery of the endangered Macquarie Perch.
