Schools Climate Action Conference

Canberra Environment Centre attended the ACT Government’s recent Schools Climate Action Conference at the University of Canberra and was represented by Fiona Veikkanen (Executive Director) and Tina Gopalan (Acting Project Officer).

The Schools Climate Action Conference is a free, one-day event for ACT school students in years 7-12 which aims to help students develop leadership skills and learn about issues relating to climate change.

The year 9-12 students also met local change-makers who are currently taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including politicians, academics, businesspeople, and community leaders.

This was an amazing opportunity for us to interact with the young brilliant minds of today’s students who will become our future climate action leaders of tomorrow. With their many questions, we were thrilled to share information on recycling, composting and more.

This event was made possible through the ACT Government’s Climate Choices program.
